Unfortunately, you’re just lying to yourself there... RCMP is just less obvious about it, and less of it. But they still deliberately chase former soldiers and wannabe soldiers.

Not saying Surrey isn’t bad. But there is no environment outside of a warzone where an MRAP is justified. Period.

I aggressively disagree with you. There are plenty of circumstance that it has legitimate usefulness, specifically as a point of safety for cover the advance of officers either to retrieve injured or to move up to an entry location. Yeah no, I think you aren’t considering all the possibilities.

In exactly ZERO scenarios is a vehicle specifically designed to be resistant to dozens or hundreds of kilograms of explosives planted under the road appropriate for ‘urban’ use. Period. Not a matter for debate either. There are plenty of far more suitable options. Which, unlike the MRAP - gasp! - can actually fucking function and provide protection UP TOP WHERE IT IS REQUIRED while also CARRYING MORE PEOPLE.

Like, gasp, armored cars . You know, like the ones they use for banks and the like. Which are not just bulletproof on all sides but the bottom, but also highly resistant to explosions, carry a ton of equipment and people, and fit down city streets!

Whoah there! Ok so let me explain, so I do understand that an armored car will do the job just as well as an MRAP, and I do not worship the rise of the state military, however keep in mind that most if not all of these MRAP’s were part of federal grants. Why not get accept free armored cars which will last for years . Overkill? yeah but they are still useful. Got to run to class ill be back later to finish my thoughts.

I had to look up crime stats on Surrey, after hearing our maple syrup swigging brethren always saying how scary this place is.

Twelve murders last year and violent crime was down 20%. Twelve murders in a city with over 500k residents. 12. Douze. That’s not even dangerous by Canadian standards. I have a friend who lives in Regina  which has a murder rate 3x that.

Methinks “ghetto” might mean something different in Canadian than it does in American. That, or Canadians are even more afraid of brown people than Americans are.

one of the big parts of policing in North America is the “show of force” I know it sounds dumb but the psychological effect of an MRAP is much more significant than an armored E series van. I’m not certain I agree with it. But they have a logical reason as far as psychology goes.

It’s like buying a truck instead of a hatchback. Brodozers buy them because of what people think about the car.

Surrey is in BC? BC is the province with the highest minority population percentage (27%). Even with the number at that level province-wide 57% is almost absurdly segragated. I wonder if the MRAPs are  also employed in downtown Vancouver.
